Membership with FPSI

At the Financial Planning Skills Institute (FPSI), we recognize the importance of fostering a community of professionals who embody the highest standards of ethical conduct and competence. Our membership structure is designed to ensure that individuals seeking to join our ranks possess the necessary qualifications, expertise, and commitment to upholding the principles that define the financial planning profession.

Membership Pathways FPSI does not directly admit individuals as members. Instead, we collaborate with accredited professional bodies and awarding organizations in the financial planning sector. These organizations are responsible for assessing candidates, conducting examinations, and granting membership based on their respective criteria.

Once an individual becomes a member of an FPSI-accredited professional body, they can apply for FPSI’s Certificate of Ethical Fit, which serves as a cross-certification, recognizing their adherence to the ethical and professional standards set forth by our institute.

Accredited Professional Bodies FPSI has established partnerships with the following accredited professional bodies in Nigeria:

  1. Association of Financial Analysts of Nigeria (AFAN)
  2. Accredited Financial Planners Association (AFPA)

These accredited bodies share our commitment to promoting excellence in financial planning and upholding the highest ethical standards within the profession.

The Certification Process To obtain FPSI’s Certificate of Ethical Fit, members of accredited professional bodies must successfully complete the following steps:

Step 1:

Membership with Accredited Professional Body Individuals must first become members of an FPSI-accredited professional body, such as AFAN or AFPA, by meeting their respective membership requirements. This typically involves passing examinations, demonstrating relevant work experience, and adhering to the code of ethics and professional conduct set forth by the accredited body.

Step 2:

Ethical Fitness Assessment Once admitted as a member of an accredited professional body, individuals can apply for FPSI’s Certificate of Ethical Fit. This process involves an assessment of the applicant’s ethical fitness, which includes a comprehensive review of their professional conduct, qualifications, and adherence to ethical principles.

Step 3:

Recommended Examinations FPSI may recommend additional examinations or assessments to ensure that members possess a comprehensive understanding of financial planning best practices, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards. These examinations are designed to validate the applicant’s knowledge and competence in specific areas of financial planning.

Step 4:

Certification and Continuous Professional Development Upon successfully completing the ethical fitness assessment and any recommended examinations, applicants will be awarded FPSI’s Certificate of Ethical Fit. This certification signifies their commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards and their proficiency in financial planning practices.

To maintain their certification, members are required to undertake continuous professional development (CPD) activities, such as attending workshops, seminars, or completing online courses. FPSI provides a range of CPD opportunities to support its members’ ongoing learning and professional growth.
